St. Matthew Housing Development, Inc. (SMHD) is a Maryland non-profit, sole-purpose, member corporation formed in November 1994.  The purpose of SMHD is to own and operate St. Matthew House, a home for fifteen adults with physical disabilities who are not in need of a skilled nursing facility or group home, but may, nevertheless, require minimal support to maintain their independence, safety and quality of life in a community setting.

SMHD was formed by the original sponsor of St. Matthew House, The Orthodox Church of St. Matthew [ www.stmatthewoca.org ], also located in Columbia, Maryland.

It is the policy of St. Matthew House to admit individuals with physical disabilities and to offer them appropriate housing and related services without regard to race, religious creed, sexual orientation, gender, national origin, age or source of income.
